Online MLM as envisioned by Big Planet revolves around an individual registering with the website and purchasing permanently secured space on the Big Planet servers (permanent as long as one continues to pay for the service). The person then avails of a host of tools with which to upload, classify, tag, and manipulate digital pictures and movies via the Big Planet interface. Once albums are completely created, a member may invite a friend, relative or acquaintance to view the pictures in the album. To view the pictures, the invited person would have to register. This registration would log the inviting individual as the referrer. Should the invitee decide to join Big Planet; the referrer is credited with a commission.

The way this can be fully explained is – person (X) joins Big Planet and opens an account for which (X) pays a certain annual fee. Person (X) uses the online service and creates albums for friends and relatives to use. To invite any person to view the albums (X) would have to send a specific link to the viewer. To view the pictures the viewer (Y) would have to register with the website. If (Y) too joins Big Planet as a member then (X)’s account is credited with a commission. Should (Y) then go on to invite some else to view pictures (Z) who also joins Big Planet as a paying member, then both (Y) and (X) would benefit from residual income.

The online MLM business is a dynamic one, and with people spending increasing amounts of time online, spending on web based ‘cloud’ software and server solutions, its seems reasonable to expect a good product to make a lot of headway.

But with a revenue based model to entice individuals to join and use services that are top of the line, companies like Big Planet are capitalizing on the natural tendency for all people to make a recommendation of a good product or service – and to get paid for doing this. A company like Big Planet would have had to spend large amounts of money on advertising would it not have initiated an MLM system. The cost of the product already includes the cost of advertising, but this money is spent on referrers.
